Symptoms of Anemia

Return to Home Page  Return to Symptoms Page

Anemia symptoms occur when there are a decreased number of red blood cells. Red blood cells function to carry oxygen through the body.

There are many different types of anemia, but in general all anemia can be separated into three categories. Anemia can occur because of decreased production from the bone marrow, increased destruction within the blood vessels, or through blood loss.

Sometimes people will have these symptoms in the setting of other chronic illness.

Chemotherapy can lead to anemia secondary to decreased production because of bone marrow damage.
