Cause of High Blood Pressure

 



The cause of high blood pressure is most commonly related to essential hypertension.

High blood pressure is characterized by a systolic blood pressure > 140 mmhg or a diastolic pressure > 90 mmhg.

The medical causes of high blood pressure include primary hyperaldosteronism, anemia, arteriosclerosis, Cushing's syndrome, and essential hypertension.

Increased intracranial pressure, pain, myocardial infarction, exercise, pheochromocytoma, polycystic kidney disease, and preeclampsia can all be a cause of high blood pressure.

Renal artery stenosis and thyrotoxicosis, alcohol, and drugs such as amphetamines can also be a cause of high blood pressure.
