Cause of Confusion

 



The cause of confusion, cannot always be determined easily because the patient cannot give a good history.

Trauma, tumor, stroke, decreased cerebral perfusion, hypoglycemia, electrolyte disorders, and hemorrhagic stroke can all be a cause of confusion.

Infection, hypothermia, hypoxemia, and metabolic disorders can also be a cause of confusion. Thyroid disorders, seizures, thiamine deficiency, alcohol, and drugs can also cause confusion.

Dementia, delirium, narcotics, barbiturates, and benzodiazepines can be a cause of confusion.

Other medications that can cause confusion, include lidocaine, digitalis, indomethacin, cycloserine, chloroquine, atropine, and cimetidine, and theophylline .
