The cause of measles is an infection with a virus called the morbillivirus.

Measles is also known as Rubeola. The cause of measles is spread via the respiratory tract by inhalation. Measles has an incubation period of 10 to 14 days.

The cause of measles is associated with the development of koplik spots on the buccal mucosa 2 days prior to the development of an erythematosus maculopapular rash that develops behind the ears and forhead, which spreads to be face, trunk, upper extremities, and lower extremities.
