Cause of Weight Gain

 


The cause of weight gain can be due to many medical conditions. Medical causes include acromegaly, diabetes mellitus, heart failure, Cushing's syndrome, hyperinsulinism, and dysfunctions of the hypothalamus.

Hypothyroidism, nephrotic syndrome, pancreatic islet cell tumors, preeclampsia, and Sheehan’s syndrome can also be a cause of weight gain.

Medications such as steroids, trycyclic antidepressants, oral contraceptives, lithium, and phenothiazines are also known to be a cause of weight gain.
