Cause of Bladder Infection

 



Bacterial are the cause of bladder infection. Urine in the bladder is normally sterile. When bacteria are the cause of a bladder infection, it generally results from contamination from normal bacterial flora of the body. The most common cause of bladder infection is E. coli.

Other causes include Pseudomonas, Enterococci,, Staphylococcus, and Klebsiella. Chlamydia, Candida, Gonococcus, and sometimes Herpes can be the cause of bladder infection.

Patients who have a fistula between the bladder and bowel can develop a recurrent bladder infections. Foley catheters can also be a cause of bladder infection.
