Cellulitis is a cutaneous infection of the skin. It is characterized by a redness of the skin (erythema) and warmth over the involved area.

Cellulitis symptoms often include swelling. Sometimes people have pain. Often people will have a streak of redness starting from a more distal location on the extremity and spreading to a more proximal location.


Sometimes cellulitis symptoms are associated with a discharge of pus or fluid from the source of the cellulitis.


Cellulitis common in people with diabetes, and often is associated with a history of injury to the affected area.
