Symptoms of CHF develop when the heart the fails to pump an adequate volume of blood. Symptoms of CHF are characterized by shortness of breath with exertion and at rest.
Patients often experience orthopnea (shortness of breath, while lying flat). Sometimes people wake up in the middle of the night short of breath (paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnea).
