Cystic fibrosis symptoms occur because of dysfunction of the exocrine glands. Cystic fibrosis is one of the most common hereditary disorders, occurring in 1/2500 Caucasians.
Cystic fibrosis symptoms are often seen in children and are characterized by failure to develop and grow properly (failure to thrive), chronic cough, changes in fingers and toes (digital clubbing), greasy stools, swelling of the abdomen, and malodorous stools.
