Dementia symptoms are characterized by memory and behavior changes.

Dementia symptoms always include loss of memory. This may manifest in patients who develop difficulties with remembering names, specific information, and short-term information about recent events.


Patients may develop depression, unusual or inappropriate behavior, or difficulty learning new information. Dementia symptoms may include repeating words, repeating stories, or even repeating sounds.


Other dementia symptoms may include difficulty with speaking. Severe dementia symptoms characterized by inability to recognize familiar objects or people.

Sometimes people get lost in situations that should be familiar. People with dementia sometimes have a difficult time caring for themselves.

Dementia symptoms often include weight loss, difficulty with dressing, abnormal hygiene, and abnormal eating.
