Diverticulitis symptoms occur in association with an infection of diverticula.

Patients can develop pain in the abdomen with fever, bloating, and tenderness.

Thirty to 50% of people have diverticular disease, but only a fraction will develop diverticulitis.

Other symptoms of diverticulitis can include blood in the stool, diarrhea and recurrent left lower abdominal pain. Pain can develop in other areas of the abdomen including the middle lower abdomen.
