Symptoms of Epilepsy

Epilepsy symptoms are characterized by the development of seizures. There are two main types of seizures, generalized seizures and partial seizures.

Epilepsy symptoms in patients with generalized seizures can be further separated into those with absence seizures, tonic clonic seizures, and myoclonic seizures.


Epilepsy symptoms in patients absence seizures are characterized by a change in mental status with episodes of barely noticeable loss of consciousness.


Epilepsy symptoms in patients with tonic-clonic seizures are characterized by sudden recurrent muscle spasms lasting seconds and not associated with loss of consciousness.

Epilepsy symptoms in patients with partial seizures can be further separating into those with simple or complex partial seizures. Epilepsy symptoms in patients with simple seizures can occur in essentially any part of the body and his associate with the sudden jerking of that body part and rhythmic fashion.

Complex seizures are associated with unresponsiveness.
