Hepatitis C Symptoms develop in patients who are infected with the hepatitis C virus. The Hepatitis C virus is a single stranded RNA virus. People most commonly develop hepatitis C through IV drug use. Before technology was available to screen blood transfusions for hepatitis C, it was not uncommon for people to develop hepatitis C after receiving a blood transfusion. Many patients who develop hepatitis C have no specific risk factors. Symptoms of hepatitis C include enlarged spleen, enlarged liver and tenderness in the right upper abdomen. Other hepatitis C symptoms include jaundice, dark urine and the development of ascites. Cryoglobulinemia and immune complex disease are uncommon symptoms of hepatitis C. there are approximately 150,000 new cases of hepatitis C each year in United States. Many patients who have hepatitis C will never have any hepatitis C Symptoms. |
