Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is characterized by recurrent episodes of diarrhea, alternating with constipation, associated with abdominal pain.


The IBS symptoms include urgency, excessive need for straining, and abdominal bloating. Often IBS symptoms will improve after bowel movements.
