Ischemic colitis is characterized by decreased blood flow to the bowel. Ischemic colitis is associated with abdominal pain. Sometimes people will experience low back pain.

The symptoms of ischemic colitis include blood in the stool. This will be identified by black stool, maroon stool, or bright red stool. Usually people will have some degree of associated diarrhea.


Abdominal tenderness, fever, and nausea are also common symptoms of ischemic colitis.
