Approximately 1/3 of Americans are obese. Thousands of Americans attempt to lose weight every year. There are many factors involved in obesity and weight loss. All these factors have to be addressed to some point in patients wishing lose weight. Men with a BMI of > 27.8 or women with a BMI > 27.3 are said to be obese and should theoretically lose weight. Many health conditions can be improved if the patient can lose weight. As little as 10% weight-loss can have a profound effect on long-term health. Most patients choose to lose weight on their own. However, there are medical treatments, clinical programs, behavioral therapy, medications, and surgery available to help people lose weight. | |
