Mesothelioma cancer is seen in patients with a history of smoking and asbestos exposure. Mesothelioma cancer symptoms are often vague. They may include a gradual increase in shortness of breath.
Patients may develop local spread of the cancer or metastatic disease. A collection of fluid around the lung may develop called a pleural effusion.
Mesothelioma cancer is most commonly associated with asbestos exposure crocidolite. There is usually a period of time of 15-40 years between exposure and development of this cancer. Most commonly these people are also smokers.
