Myocarditis symptoms occur when there is an infection or inflammation of the heart muscle. Common causes of myocarditis include viral infection, bacterial infection, or parasitic infection.


Myocarditis symptoms generally involve problems with breathing. Breathing problems can include shortness of breath, cough, fatigue, and difficulty with breathing when lying down.


Other Myocarditis symptoms can include fever, syncope, joint pain, fatigue, and lower extremity swelling. Many patients have a history of a recent viral illness.
