Pericarditis is an inflammation or infection of the pericardium. Pericarditis symptoms generally include problems with breathing resulting from abnormal heart function.

Almost everyone will have shortness of breath. Often people will have symptoms of chest discomfort, particularly when they sit back or lie down.


Pericarditis symptoms can include a dizziness, fatigue, and generalized weakness. Pericarditis symptoms can also include swelling of the ankles, high fever, and inability to carry out normal everyday activities.


Pericarditis is often associated with a pericardial friction rub.
