Back problems are a frequent cause of disability in the United States. Greater than 75% of people will experience back problems during their life. Back problems are self limited in most situations. Back injury is one of the most common causes of back problems. It is important to point out that many disorders can cause back problems. Everything from appendicitis to cancer can cause back problems. The causes of back problems can be separated into soft tissue problems, disorders of the bones and joints, and dysfunction of the muscle and nerves.
