Thyroid problems are generally related to an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism) or an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism). Thyroid problems that present as an overactive thyroid can include Grave’s disease, multinodular goiter, hyperfunctioning thyroid adenoma, thyoiditis. Symptoms consistent with thyroid problems can occur if someone is taking too much thyoid replacement. An underactive thyroid can be associated with another set of thyroid problems. These can include postoperative hypothyroidism, autoimmune thyroiditis, radiation exposure, thyroid dysgenesis, surgical resection, and drug induced hypothyroidism. Thalamic dysfunction and pituitary dysfunction can present as thyroid problems.
