Prostatitis symptoms occur in men who develop inflammation of the prostate gland. This can be caused by bacteria, but not all men with prostatitis have an infection.

Prostatitis symptoms are characterized by pain and fullness in the rectum and at the base of the penis.

Other prostatitis symptoms include pain with urination, frequent urination, and difficulty with emptying the bladder fully. Some men will develop pain at the end of the penis.

Other prostatitis symptoms include pain at the base of the back, fever, chills, and generalized malaise.
