What is the mechanism of Flecainide?
Flecainide is a class Ic antiarrhythmic that works by blocking the sodium channels, resulting in depression of the phase 0 the polarization and decreased induction velocity at the Perkinge cells. At the pacemaker cells of flecainide works to decrease the slope of phase 4 and increase the threshold for depolarization.
What are the contraindications to Flecainide?
Flecainide should not be used in patients with second degree or third-degree or bifascicular heart block. Flecainide may decrease the effectiveness of pacemakers. Flecainide should not be used in people with a history of structural heart disease.
